How a private gym gets built
From a Measured Room to a Finished Gym
The same six stages we run on a commercial fitness facility, scaled to one house. The rooms are ours — a Plano rendering, Bellaire and Columbus installs, a real install day — with two of our design concepts standing in for the plan and the equipment mix. The process is identical; only the client changes.
1. Consultation and site measure
We start with how you train and who else will use the room, then measure the space itself: ceiling height, door and stair clearances, floor construction, windows, and where power already runs. A garage, a basement, a pool house and a spare bedroom each set different limits, and the drawing starts from the real ones.
2. 2D floor plan and 3D rendering
The room is drawn to scale with every piece of equipment at its real footprint and clearance, then rendered so you see the finishes, the mirrors, the lighting and the sightlines before anything is ordered. Design turnaround for a room like this typically runs one to two weeks, delivered with the equipment quote so the layout and the cost are approved as one decision.
3. Mirrors, wall graphics, flooring and lighting
This is where a gym stops looking like a storage room. Full-height or framed mirrors, custom wall graphics, zoned flooring — rubber under the free weights, a platform under the rack, plank or turf where it belongs — and the lighting that makes the room read as part of the house. All of it is placed on the same drawing as the equipment.
4. Equipment curated from 50+ manufacturers
We are a commercial dealer, not a store, so the room decides the equipment rather than a house line. Cardio, selectorized and plate-loaded strength, a rack and platform, cable work and functional pieces are matched to your training, your budget and the space — and everything is commercial grade, built to be serviced rather than replaced.
5. Sauna, cold plunge and recovery
Infrared or traditional sauna, a cold plunge, a massage lounge or red-light therapy each bring building requirements — a dedicated circuit, ventilation, a floor drain, clearance to combustible construction — that are far cheaper to settle on the drawing than after the drywall is up. We specify them with the room, not as an afterthought.
6. Delivered, placed to the plan, tested and serviced
Our own crews deliver and install across Texas and Arizona; elsewhere we coordinate through our installation partner network. Equipment is placed exactly where the plan shows it, assembled, tested and left clean. In Texas and Arizona the same company services it afterward — preventive maintenance and repair by our own technicians.

A Private Gym Designed and Installed to a Commercial Standard
The difference between a luxury home gym and an expensive room full of equipment is the design. Fit Supply has drawn, equipped and installed fitness facilities since 2007, and a private gym gets the same process: the room is measured, drawn to scale and rendered before a single machine is ordered, the equipment is commercial grade and chosen for how you actually train, and the finishes — mirrors, flooring, wall graphics, lighting, sauna and cold plunge — are part of the drawing rather than an afterthought.
Most home gym purchases go one of two ways. A retail store sells a machine, it arrives on a pallet, and the room is whatever is left around it. Or a design firm produces a beautiful rendering and hands you a list to source yourself. We do the whole thing under one roof: the design, the equipment from 50+ manufacturer partners at commercial dealer pricing, the flooring and mirrors, the recovery, the delivery, the installation, and — in Texas and Arizona — the service afterward. One drawing, one quote, one crew.
That matters most in the houses where a gym is expected to look like the rest of the home. A wood-clad wall, a full-height mirror, a rack finished in a color that matches the millwork, cardio placed to face the window instead of the water heater, a sauna and plunge in a wet room built for them — these are design decisions, and they only come out right when they are made on the same plan as the equipment. Our design process was built for exactly that, on rooms far larger than a house, and it scales down without losing anything.
The Bellaire room at the top of this page is one of ours, and it is not the only one. 300+ of our home installations have been in Texas since 2020 — across 240+ homes, from a single commercial treadmill to a whole room — and most of them in the estate communities north of Dallas–Fort Worth: Prosper, Argyle, Southlake, Westlake, Celina, Frisco, McKinney and Colleyville, with Austin, Houston and San Antonio behind them. Our crews run from Irving and from Chandler, Arizona, so a Texas or Arizona home is installed by the people who drew it. Everywhere else, the design and the equipment are ours and the installation is coordinated through our nationwide partner network.

Drawn first, then built exactly as drawn
A private gym is drawn the same way as everything else we build: to scale, with every piece at its real footprint. These three views are our own renderings of a home gym in Plano, Texas — a half rack, plate storage, a functional trainer and cardio along the window wall — drawn in 2026 and installed that July, exactly as approved.
The same standard holds on every room we build, and we publish it: the 3D rendering, the 2D floor plan and the finished installation of the same space, so the design service can be judged by whether the room that got built is the room that was promised. Commercial cardio and strength are built for continuous use, designed to be repaired rather than replaced, and keep parts available for years — which is why a well-specified commercial treadmill outlasts a retail one by years. The house has to be ready for it
The decisions that go wrong in a home gym are building decisions, and they are cheap on paper and expensive afterward. A fitness floor is designed to a 100 psf live load where a residential floor is 40 psf, so an upstairs room with a loaded rack and plate storage is a structural question before it is a design one. Commercial treadmills specify a dedicated 120-volt, 20-amp circuit each; a sauna heater, a plunge chiller and a massage lounge each specify their own, and a sauna adds ventilation and clearance to combustible construction. A cold plunge wants a floor drain and a wet-rated room. Impact noise from a drop zone travels through the structure, not the air, so the floor build-up under the free weights is an assembly, not a mat. And the equipment has to physically arrive — stair widths, turns and door heights decide what can come in assembled. We measure all of this on the site visit and put it on the drawing, then hand your builder or electrician the cut sheets, dimensions, weights and power specifications for every piece before it is ordered.
Working with your architect, builder or designer
On a new build or a major remodel the gym is one trade among many, and we are comfortable being that trade. We provide scaled plans for the construction set, coordinate flooring, mirrors and recovery with the contractors already on site, and time the equipment delivery to the schedule rather than the other way around. Your designer keeps the vision; we make sure the room trains as well as it looks.

Our own delivery, installation and service crews cover Texas from Irving — Dallas–Fort Worth and its estate suburbs, Austin and the Hill Country, Houston and San Antonio — and Arizona from Chandler, covering Phoenix, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley and Tucson. We do not publish client names, addresses or properties, and we do not put your home on this page without your say. Site visits, deliveries and installs are scheduled around the household, and our crews are the same uniformed teams that install commercial facilities.
Mirrors, graphics and lighting
Full-height and framed mirrors, glassless mirror panels, custom wall graphics and accent walls, and the lighting plan that goes with them — specified and installed with the equipment so the room reads as one design, not a gym set down in a house.
Serviced after the install
In Texas and Arizona the crew that installs your room is part of the same company that maintains it: preventive maintenance plans, repair and warranty work by our own technicians. Elsewhere, warranty and service are coordinated through the manufacturer and our partner network.

Luxury home gym questions
How much does a luxury home gym cost?
It depends on four things more than anything else: the equipment tier (commercial cardio and a full strength line are the largest share), the finishes (mirrors, flooring, wall graphics and lighting), whether recovery is included (a sauna or cold plunge adds its own electrical and ventilation work), and how much of the house has to change to take it. We quote every room individually after it is drawn, so the number you see is for your room, not a package. Most of the 300+ home installations we have done in Texas were one or two commercial machines; a fully designed multi-zone room is a different project, and we will tell you honestly which one you are describing.
Do you charge for the home gym design?
Design is quoted with the project rather than sold as a separate product, and it is always drawn to scale and rendered before any equipment is ordered. Ask us how it applies to your room when you request a consultation.

Do you install home gyms outside Texas and Arizona?
Yes. Design, equipment supply and procurement are nationwide. In Texas and Arizona our own crews deliver and install; in every other state we coordinate delivery and installation through our network of installation partners, with the same drawing and the same placement standard.
Can a home gym go in a garage, a basement or on an upper floor?
All three, with different work. A garage usually needs climate control, floor protection over the slab and a plan for the door. A basement needs a route in — stair width, turns and ceiling clearance decide what can physically arrive assembled. An upper floor needs the floor structure checked: a fitness room is designed to 100 psf live load where a residential floor is 40 psf, and a loaded rack and plate storage concentrate weight in one place. We measure all of this on the site visit.
How much ceiling height does a home gym need?
Enough for the tallest user on the tallest piece. A full-height power rack is typically 7 to 9 feet; a treadmill deck adds several inches under a running user; a climbing wall, rope station or rig needs more. We check the exact machines against the exact ceiling on the drawing, which is why the measure comes before the equipment list.
What electrical does a home gym need?
Commercial treadmills specify a dedicated 120-volt, 20-amp circuit each, and a sauna, cold plunge chiller or massage lounge specifies its own. We give your electrician the cut sheets and power specifications for every piece on the plan before it is ordered, so the circuits are run once.
Do you work with my architect, builder or interior designer?
Yes, and it is the best way to do a new build. We supply scaled plans, equipment cut sheets, dimensions, weights and power specifications for the construction set, and we coordinate flooring, mirrors and recovery with the trades already on site. On a remodel we work directly with you.
How long does a luxury home gym take?
Design typically runs one to two weeks once the room is measured. Standard commercial equipment ships in weeks; custom finishes and some specialty lines run longer, and a few custom strength lines can take up to six months. Installation of a full room is usually one to two days once everything is on site. We give you the real lead times on the quote.
Will my home gym be photographed or published?
Not without your permission. We do not publish client names, addresses or properties, and the rooms on this page are shown as our design and installation work with no client identified. If you would like your finished room featured, that is your decision, not ours.
Do you service the equipment after it is installed?
In Texas and Arizona, yes — our own technicians handle repair and preventive maintenance on what we install, the same service we run for commercial facilities. Elsewhere we coordinate warranty work and service through the manufacturer and our partner network.
