ACSM allows 25 to 50 sq ft per station, which sets the honest piece count for the space you have. On a fixed budget, duplicating the two or three pieces that actually queue does more for how the benefit is perceived than adding another category nobody asked for. School and campus recreation
The same room has to work for a scholarship athlete and for a student who is only there because the class is required, and a room built solely for the first is why the second never returns. ADA requires a 30 by 48 in clear floor space on at least one of each TYPE of machine, on an accessible route, or 36 by 48 in where enclosed on three sides. ASTM F3021, the standard specification for universal design of fitness equipment, covers the machines themselves — clearances alone do not make a floor usable. ASTM F2772 covers floor performance as measured properties, and a lifting platform area asks for different values than the rest of the room.
Does a Texas fitness build need an accessibility review?
If the estimated construction cost is $50,000 or more, yes. Under Texas Government Code chapter 469, the project is registered with TDLR and reviewed by a Registered Accessibility Specialist, with registration due within 30 days of permit submission, and the same RAS performs the final inspection. It is worth confirming early, because it sits on the permit timeline rather than beside it.
