From Layout to Installation in Yuma

Yuma falls inside Fit Supply's southwestern Arizona service area. We handle commercial fitness facility design, equipment supply and installation here, run out of our Chandler operation.

Our Yuma work runs to apartment and condominium communities, senior living communities, schools and campus recreation. Each is specified to its own use pattern.

Yuma has one of the largest seasonal winter-resident populations in the country, and its RV resorts, HOA rooms and active-adult communities size their fitness spaces around that influx. Accessible, low-impact equipment carries most of the load, and summer heat is a genuine constraint on anything sited outdoors or in an uncooled space.

Installation in Yuma is done by installers we manage rather than a bare freight delivery. Equipment is delivered, assembled, positioned to the plan and function-tested before we leave, and the packaging goes with us — the same crews that cover Somerton.

Yuma is one of several southwestern Arizona markets we cover, together with Somerton and San Luis. Multi-site owners get the same specification applied across the group, which keeps budgeting predictable and replacement parts interchangeable.

In Yuma we handle the whole project rather than one slice of it — consultation, layout design, procurement, flooring, delivery, installation, finance and warranties, then maintenance afterward. For commercial fitness rooms in particular, that continuity is what stops a room degrading a year after it opens.

Working in Yuma

Most of our work in Yuma is apartment and condominium communities, senior living communities and schools and campus recreation.

What we equip in Yuma

The three categories below are the ones Yuma works in most, ranked by the volume we have actually supplied there. Each asks something different of the floor, the power and the clearances, so each is planned from the room outward.

Apartment and condominium amenity rooms

Putting a gym into a room that was drawn as apartments is the one decision that can move a schedule by months, and it is worth settling in week one. A fitness floor is designed for more than twice the load of living space — IBC Table 1607.1 puts fitness areas at 100 psf against 40 psf for residential areas outside sleeping rooms — so converting existing space upstairs is a change of use your structural engineer has to sign off. We ask that question before we quote equipment, because finding it at delivery is what turns a two-week install into a two-month one. More on equipping apartment and condo fitness centers.

Senior living fitness rooms

A machine a resident cannot get onto unaided is occupied floor space, not an amenity. Step-through access, seat height and clear grip points decide use here, and there is a standard for specifying them: ASTM F3021, the standard specification for universal design of fitness equipment for inclusive use by people with functional limitations and impairments. ADA then adds a 30 by 48 in clear floor space for at least one of each type of machine, on an accessible route. More on equipping senior living fitness rooms.

School and campus recreation

A campus weight room takes harder use than almost anything else we equip, and it takes it from people who are being coached to lift heavy. That makes both the structure and the surface safety items rather than budget items. IBC Table 1607.1 designs fitness areas for a 100 psf live load, which matters most when a strength room goes into an existing building. ASTM F2772 then covers the floor as measured properties — force reduction, vertical deformation, ball bounce and surface friction — which is what a platform area actually needs written into the specification. Common questions about Yuma projects

How many pieces of equipment will fit in our amenity room?

Fewer than a square-footage estimate suggests. ACSM allows 25 to 50 sq ft per station on the fitness floor, and that is before circulation. ADA adds a 30 by 48 in clear floor space for at least one of each type of machine, though it may overlap the accessible route and sit in the aisle behind the machine. We lay the room out to scale before quoting equipment.

How much space does a senior living fitness room need?

More circulation than the equipment count suggests. ADA sets a 60 in diameter circular turning space and a 36 in minimum clear route width, and in a community where residents use walkers and wheelchairs those are the dimensions that decide whether the room works. We lay out to those first and place equipment around them.

What does a school weight room need that a general gym does not?

Higher tolerance on both the floor and the equipment. IBC Table 1607.1 designs fitness areas for a 100 psf live load, which is a real constraint when a strength room goes into an existing building. ASTM F2772 covers floor performance as measured properties, and a lifting platform area asks for different values than the rest of the room.

How do we keep an Arizona fitness room ADA compliant?

By settling the clearances on the drawing. The federal ADA Standards apply in Arizona, and they require a 30 by 48 in clear floor space for at least one of each TYPE of exercise machine, reached by an accessible route of 36 in minimum clear width — or 36 by 48 in where the space is enclosed on three sides. That clear space may overlap the route and sit in the aisle behind the machine.

Do you cover properties near Yuma?

Yes. Yuma sits inside our coverage in southwestern Arizona, and the same crews work Somerton and San Luis. For an operator running more than one property across those markets, that means one specification, one point of contact and one parts channel rather than a separate arrangement per site.
