The Clearwater Cardio Wall
The brief
A residential community in Clearwater, Florida wanted its fitness amenity to read as a boutique studio a resident would choose to spend time in, not a standard row of black cardio machines. That brief shows up in the equipment list as much as the design: wood-finish cardio equipment in place of the usual black-and-chrome default, positioned to make the most of a real pool view the room already had.
A cardio wall finished in wood, not just black and chrome
The finished room pairs two NOHrD Sprintbok curved wood treadmills and a WaterRower Natural S4 — both genuinely wood-bodied cardio equipment, not a black machine with a wood-look panel — with a NOHrD Ash Pro XS indoor bike and Matrix Lifestyle Touch treadmills and ellipticals. All of it faces the community pool through two separate walls of floor-to-ceiling glass, so the room reads as bright and open rather than a sealed equipment box.
A genuine outlier: a Jacobs Ladder
A Jacobs Ladder climbing machine — a continuously moving ladder that reads speed and incline off how fast a user climbs it — sits alongside the wood-finish cardio line. A full functional and strength wing
A separate double-height room carries the strength side: a Matrix Versa selectorized line, a Matrix/Magnum Smith machine reflected in a full mirrored wall, and multiple TKO functional rigs — one set against a stone accent wall — plus an Everlast heavy bag, dumbbell racks, kettlebells and plyo boxes. The two-story ceiling gives the strength wing a scale the cardio room does not need, while a smaller accessory area keeps medicine balls, bands and a bench close at hand.
