The Coffered-Ceiling Main Floor
The brief
An apartment community in Houston, Texas wanted its fitness amenity to read as a real, finished architectural room — the kind of ceiling treatment and lighting a resident would notice in a clubhouse lounge, not the flat drop ceiling most amenity gyms get by default. The equipment still had to carry the room: a genuine functional-training centerpiece, a full cardio line and a complete strength floor, not just a good-looking box.

The main floor runs under a black coffered ceiling — recessed panels, recessed lighting and ceiling fans — a finish most multifamily fitness centers never get. Centered under it is a Batca AXIS functional trainer paired with a heavy bag, backed by a full Matrix Lifestyle LED cardio line (treadmills, ellipticals, a climbmill and an indoor cycle) and a Matrix RowerX. A fully stocked TKO 48" Freestanding Bay accessory rack — medicine balls, kettlebells, a stability ball and a battle rope — sits against the wall beside a built-in cabinetry and hydration nook, and floor-to-ceiling windows face the property’s own outdoor pergola.
A separate room for the full strength line
Rather than crowd a second equipment type into the same room, the strength side gets its own dedicated space under a plain flat ceiling: a complete Matrix Versa selectorized line — leg press, multi-press, lat row and an extension/curl station — plus a Matrix/Magnum vertical knee raise, multi-adjustable benches and a 3-tier dumbbell rack, with its own windows facing the community’s courtyard.
