New, Refurbished or Remanufactured?

What the Three Conditions Actually Mean, and What Each Is Warranted For

The word "refurbished" is used loosely across this industry, and the difference between the three conditions is the difference between a bargain and a problem. These are the definitions written into our terms of sale, so they are what you are actually buying.

As-Is

Sold with no service, no repair and no warranty of any kind. You accept the product in its present condition and at your own risk. This is the right choice when you can inspect the item yourself, you know the model, and the price reflects the risk — and the wrong choice for a room you are responsible for keeping open.

Cleaned and Serviced (Refurbished)

The product is cleaned, and its moving and wear components are inspected and lubricated, cleaned, calibrated or replaced as needed. Cosmetic condition is not addressed — expect blemishes, wear, scratches, discoloration or worn displays. It carries a 30-day parts-and-labor warranty.

This is usually the best value per dollar for a working room where appearance is secondary: a back-of-house staff gym, a station, a second location.

Remanufactured

The product is returned to like-new working condition, including a painted frame and replaced wear components, and carries a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty. Custom color options may be available. This is what belongs in a room that is being toured — an amenity space in a lease-up, a club floor, anywhere the equipment is part of the impression.

How to choose

The honest rule is that properly reconditioned commercial equipment will typically outlast new light-commercial equipment at a similar price, and it lets a build-out budget cover more of the floor. Where a budget will not stretch to new commercial across the whole room, the better trade is usually reconditioned commercial rather than new light-commercial — the frames and bearings were built for the duty in the first place.

Where the equipment is going into an unstaffed room open around the clock, weight the decision toward the warranted conditions. A machine with no warranty in a room nobody supervises is a machine that will be out of service before anyone reports it.

Where used does not apply

Two things are worth separating out. New equipment carries the manufacturer’s own limited warranty, which we pass through — the manufacturer’s published warranty controls, and periods differ by component, with parts frequently covered for longer than the labor to install them. And where Fit Supply installs, we warrant our installation workmanship for 1 year from completion regardless of whether the equipment is new or used; that is our only labor warranty.

Custom products sit outside all of this: they require 100% payment up front and cannot be cancelled, returned, rescheduled or refused. Standard stock returns need prior written authorization and carry a 25% restocking charge, and a cancellation after execution carries a 25% fee of the proposal total.

What to check before buying used

• Which condition, in writing. The condition determines the warranty, and it should be stated on the quote rather than described in conversation.
• Model, age and hours are approximate. Our terms say so explicitly, because on used equipment they are not warranted.
• All used sales are final except as the applicable condition warranty requires.
• Warehouse pickup carries no warranty at all and is taken at your own risk — delivery with warranty is the alternative.
• Ask what is actually in stock. Availability moves, and a specification built around an item that has gone is a specification that has to be redone.
